Our teachers communicate and offer learning support through the Google Classroom platform, which is an efficient way to take learning online during remote study. All of our classes at Huanui College have an online presence – regardless of whether we are based on campus, or based at home. Resources and assessments are easily available, and updated for each subject. The online courses mean students organise their studies, and revisit content easily.
There will be some parts of the learning plan / school curriculum that may change depending on the location of learning.
When learning from home, our kura continues to follow the regular school timetable. This approach keeps structure and reliability, providing the familiar routine of learning the students are used to. We understand that this may not be possible for everyone, for a variety of reasons. For this, we ask that where possible, regular communication is kept between the College and families, so we can monitor and support each student together.
A high number of interactions are Zoom or Google Meet video lessons. This ensures we keep face to face time with one another, and helps with community spirit.
Students are expected to be proactive and continue to their best abilities with projects they have started and to keep working as if it was a normal school day.
Individualised learning plans are in place for those receiving learning support, and while learning is at home it is understandable that more may need additional guidance. We ask that where possible, you support your children with their schoolwork, and offer assistance where needed.
We monitor our students during this time, and request parents stay in contact with the school so we can work together to ensure the individual needs and environments of learners are considered.
We know that not every child copes, or has experience with distance learning. There are unique challenges that some households face with online learning, and we encourage you to contact your child’s Whānau Leader, Whānau Teacher, or Subject Teachers directly regarding concerns.
Some of us in our community may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, scared, uncertain or stressed. Shelley, our counsellor, is available for zoom meetings and phone sessions.
*We would like to advise that we are at capacity in the Junior School for 2024 and 2025. For enrolment in Senior School please contact to discuss further.
