From 2018, Huanui College teaching and administrative staff, board members, parents, and students joined a programme called “Schools that deliver”. Together they are working towards delivering the shared vision by working in small teams to focus aspects of the school that can be developed to improve student learning.

Developing the future of the College

Huanui College is now into its fifth year of researching ways to deliver its shared vision. The shared vision provides ownership, relationship and alignment. Our aim is to deliver this shared vision with commitment and passion. The vision assists us to make clear decisions about what real work is, and what it is not, and to enable everyone to focus and align.

The reality for schools today is that we must focus our delivery through a number of very real challenges:

  • holding our nerve through the inevitable storms which the school will face
  • designing and delivering changes in our thinking and learning, which is at the root of growth in any school
  • creating and maintaining alignment to our shared commitments
  • using time wisely
  • delivering accountability based on personal responsibility
  • growing leaders and leadership at all levels of the school
  • paying attention to what really matters
  • modelling strength of character

There is always a gap between what we say and what we do. We are conscious of this. The key is to have systems around us to ensure our awareness. If each of us is not delivering on our promises then the school becomes mired in wishful thinking, good intentions, and empty words. The key to ensuring that we do deliver is to action our shared vision.

Our school culture begins with our core values at the foundation. Our responsibility is to build, and be caretaker of, the school’s culture. We believe that living the values, modelling them, articulating them and teaching them, delivers aligned action and results in the emergence of what we all stand for. This is what really matters, what our values look like and feel like as lived in our school community. When we live our core values our culture comes alive.

The school believes that we are an important partner with the family in the education of each child. These partnerships require the building of productive relationships and sharing of the deep insights we each bring to the learning of each child and group of children.

When we are all in alignment, then we have a school that delivers.
