Huanui College production of 'Disney's The Little Mermaid'
In August 2017 Huanui College presented their critically acclaimed production of The Little Mermaid, performed at Whangarei's Capitaine Bougainville Theatre.
"What a fabulous success The Little Mermaid production was, we have had so much positive feedback from audiences. Our team of actors, musicians, and stage crew have been commended by Forum North and all the parents backstage who witnessed a very committed bunch of students that knew what they had to do to put on a great show. The skills these students have gained will stay with them forever. I have had a pride lump in my throat every day since last week. A huge thank you has to go to Cathy Senescall, Rebecca-Amy Muir, and Angela McGregor without whom the show would not have been the success it was. A total of 75 students were involved in some way with The Little Mermaid production and were officially recognised at the assembly on Wednesday. Thank you again." - Mrs. Debi Walters-Brown
Huanui College band 'Mic's Mates'- 2017
In a short space of time, we put together an awesome band – MIC’S MATES to perform at the regional heats of the Smokefree Rockquest Competition.
The band members consisted of Katene Cotton (bass, lead guitar), Michael Martin (drums, bass), Mana Harding (drums, lead guitar), Amelia Hori-Hoult (uke, vocals) and exchange student Elin Vankan (songwriter, keys, vocals). The band worked so well together and sounded amazing at the Regional Heats at Forum North where they were selected to go through to the Regional Finals.
Both songs were written by Elin and supported extremely well by the band. Katene Cotton once again took out ‘Musician of the Year’ after showcasing his amazing musicianship on the bass guitar. The band was so well supported by their school with a number of students and teachers there to cheer them on – we were all very proud!
A special mention also to Sam Snushall a Year 10 Music student who also performed as part of a Girls High/Huanui College group. What an exceptional musician and so entertaining – well done Sam.
