Performing Arts - The Night of the Arts
Every year, the Visual and Performing Arts department celebrates the talent at Huanui College by having the The Night of the Arts showcase.
2019 report: The Night of the Arts was a show to behold indeed! With all 250 tickets sold out, we were set for an exciting and busy evening. All students involved were bused out from the College at the end of period 2, and got to immediate work at the venue, “Christ Church”, practicing their acts and tuning instruments and costumes.
With Mrs Muir and Matua Henry running the rehearsals, the transitions of the show was in tip top shape by the end of the day when the buses returned the students to school. Ms Budd-Fletcher was in charge of the kitchen, speedily creating a banquet of canapes with the Year 9 Food and Nutrition class. Ms Cole, Ms Evans and Miss Rouse set up the exhibition that showcased wonderful work from the Art and Technology classes of that year, with a special exhibition of photography from Bella Wallace.
Parents, friends and guests arrived at 7pm, and were welcomed by a Karakia from Matua Henry and Takaimaania Ngata-Henare . The two hosts of the evening, Brandon Chuter and Toby Hooper, were on form with their promptness to duty and most outstanding, highly hilarious jokes. The Night of the Arts showcased a variety of talented acts which included, students from Year 8 Drama and Music, Year 7 Drama and Music, Year 10 Music, Kapa Haka Performance Group, Year 9 Music and not to mention the special performances from Sam Snushall, Amelia Hori-Elliott, Seheun Hong and Hayoon Seo, Robin Snowsill and Maisie McEnery-Lane, The Unaccompanied Minors, Tiana Thompson and Paige Pulham, Grace Wiegersma, Esther Wiegersma, Asha Huddleston, Oliver Buckle and Rachael Jackson, Natalya Newman and M’Lago Morrison.
