BAKING FOR GARAGE SALE – PLEASE HELP US OUT AND MAKE A SLICE OR CAKE TO BE SOLD AT NEXT SATURDAY’S GARAGE SALE.  THESE CAN BE DROPPED TO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY 10TH MAY – THANK YOU!  CAKE BOXES AVAILABLE AT THE OFFICE IF NEEDED.

HC GARAGE SALE – Saturday 11 May – We need everyones help to make this a success – please drop into school any unwanted goods: sports gear, furniture, toys, games, tools, books, clothing and anything else you think would sell well.  Please, we only want gear that is in tip top condition, no stains or marks if possible and preferably only bedding that is in immaculate condition. We will also be wanting baking and items for raffles: food, sports, pamper hampers, etc. – we ask that ALL families help contribute towards these if posible and if you have contacts that may want to help sponsor then please ask around. There will be a BBQ going with mussel fritters and sausage sizzle, a baking table, plus the Coffee Girl will also be there.  If you can help in any way with this event please email office@hc.school.nz   Thank you.

HC SPORTS HOODIE - Want to order a Huanui College Sports Hoodie?  Scarf or umbrella? Follow the link to order: http://bit.ly/HChoodie2019.  Our first order has now been placed and we will place a 2nd order early this term (this will be our final order for 2019!). Orders take at least 6 – 8 weeks to be delivered from order date.

SCIENCE FAIR DAY – Wednesday 8 May (Sir David Attenborough's’ birthday).  Huanui will be having a Science day to celebrate all things Science and to tie in with David Attenborough’s love of the planet and all things natural we would like to try to be single-use plastic-free for the day. This will also be a fancy dress day with the theme being: Yr 7 – Fish; Yr8- Amphibians; Yr9- Reptiles; Yr 10 – Birds; Yr 11-Mammals; Yr 12/13- Invertebrates or Famous Naturalists.  There will be a costume parade and prize for the best outfits in each year. The students will be out of class for 2 periods completing challenges based on science.

SCIENCE FAIR AWARDS -Thursday 9th of May - this will be an after-school event with parents being able to view the science boards from 4 pm with the awards starting at 6 pm. Students who have won an award have been emailed directly. If your child has not won an award you are still more than welcome to come along and enjoy a drink and some nibbles while seeing the great work the students have done. If you are unable to attend the Science Fair awards night but would still like to view the projects you will be able to do this from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Wednesday 8th of May

HILLARY OUTDOORS ADVENTURE PROGRAMME (formerly OPC) - Year 10 only - Sunday 21 July – Friday 26 July 2019 (week 3 of July school holidays).  At present we are seeking expressions of interest as the trip will be based purely on whether we can get enough students keen to go.  The Hillary Outdoors Adventure Challenge is an excellent opportunity for our students to continue developing the personal and social skills which can be applied back in the students’ community. SEA SCOUTS - Does your child enjoy the outdoors and water activities? Come and join the Shackleton Sea Scouts! Scouting is a worldwide movement with over 32 million members in 160 countries. Our main focus is the development of young people, so that they reach their full potential and take a constructive part in society. Shackleton Sea Scouts is part of Scouting NZ and we use our amazing Northland maritime environment to do water activities, such as sailing, rowing and kayaking and land based activities, such as camping, tramping and survival.  It is open for both boys and girls: Scouts (10.5 till 15 year) and Venturers (15 till 18 year).  These sections meet on Mondays from 6.30pm till 8.30pm, location: The Den, 52a Riverside Drive, Whangarei. The first official ‘listening window’ for the 2019 Annual Northland Kiwi Call Count Survey runs from May 22nd – June 10th. Find more details at: https://kiwicoast.org.nz/events/northland-annual-kiwi-call-count-survey/  Families can take part and contribute to our understanding of the increasing numbers of kiwi in our area.

SPORTS BULLETIN – 3 MAY 2019

Code of conduct forms – over the next few weeks we will be sending home a Student Sports Code of Conduct form.  We now require all our students, coaches, and managers to sign a Code of Conduct form as part of our school alignment process.  If your child comes home with one of these forms, please read this with them as both parent and student are required to sign.  Thank you.
